Feeling held back? Not growing in your current position? The mentoring you were promised never came to fruition?
I've been in your shoes. My efforts at self study and expensive continuing education courses left me with a limited understanding of how to actually implement my new knowledge into clinical practice. I'd use manual therapy techniques for a week or so before falling back into my normal mix from my toolbox.
You have to actively make the decision to become an advanced clinician. It doesn't come without the help of those around you. Take charge of your career path and become the orthopedic specialist your peers and patients consider elite. Create your own learning experience with the help of someone who has been there and mastered that. Find out how you can change the course of your career today.
You can choose a different path.
Its all about you.
"Every time you take action, you cast a vote for the kind of person you want to be."
In my career, I have had the opportunity to mentor many different types of learning styles and levels of experienced clinicians ranging from new grads to sport/orthopedic residents to veteran PTs.
My philosophy is that in order to excel, you must appreciate the process. Becoming a specialist or a fellow is more than just studying for a test or getting letters.
If you respect the process of what it takes to become better, you will surprise yourself and will for sure be among a distinct group of practitioners that is admired within our profession.
Develop a step by step framework that is specific to your educational weaknesses and challenge yourself to incorporate available evidence into your delivery of patient care.
If you're unsure if this is your pathway, a good place to start is with the free monthly journal club.
